Leesburg Woman, 59, Arrested Again After Cocaine Found in Underwear

A 59-year-old woman from Leesburg, who has been arrested multiple times before, has returned to the Lake County Jail after cocaine was discovered in her underwear during a medical assessment at UF Health Leesburg Hospital.

The woman, identified as Kathy Sheree Sanders, was charged with possession of cocaine. Her recent arrest occurred on Tuesday afternoon near 12th and Magnolia Streets.

The incident unfolded when she was pulled over by the Leesburg Police Department for not stopping at two separate stop signs, as per the arrest report.

During the traffic stop, the police were informed that Sanders had an outstanding warrant from Sumter County for possession of drug paraphernalia. Consequently, she was taken into custody.

During the arrest, Sanders complained of breathing difficulties and discomfort caused by a boil in her genital area. Lake Emergency Medical Services responded to the situation, but it was determined that she did not meet the criteria for immediate hospital evaluation, as stated in the report.

Subsequently, Sanders was transported to the jail, where it was deemed necessary for her to undergo a medical clearance before being officially booked. As a result, she was taken to UF Health Leesburg Hospital for evaluation.

During this process, the nursing staff removed her clothing to examine her genital area. It was during this examination that a small rock-like substance weighing 0.5 grams was found in the waistline of her underwear. This substance later tested positive for cocaine, according to the report.

Records from the jail indicate that Sanders has been arrested multiple times before, including once in 2019, three times in 2020, and twice in 2022, mostly on charges related to drug offenses. She is currently being held on a $2,000 bond.
