Unidentified Deceased Person Found Floating Near AT&T Store in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Wednesday morning, a deceased individual was discovered floating in a lake adjacent to an AT&T store on the north side of Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident took place.

At 6:58 a.m. that same day, officers were dispatched to 725 Nautica Dr. to support the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, which had found the body in the water. Upon arrival, the first responders pronounced the unidentified person dead at around 6:53 a.m., as stated in the incident report.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department inquired whether the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office would be responsible for removing the body from the water or if a dive team from JSO would be called to perform the retrieval, according to the official statement.

The officer who arrived at the scene engaged with Stacey Perry Phillips, the witness to the event. Phillips reported that she had dropped off her daughter at the Jacksonville International Airport at approximately 6:40 a.m., as mentioned in the report.

While she was driving eastbound on Airport Center Drive en route to work, she noticed what seemed to be a backpack floating in the lake, the report detailed.

Phillips further explained that she pulled into a nearby parking lot to get a better view and subsequently contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The Homicide Unit of JSO arrived on-site, and the Medical Examiner’s Office later classified the cause of death as “undetermined,” the report outlined.

The body was handed over to the Medical Examiner’s office for more comprehensive examination, and an ongoing active investigation is underway.
