On Monday night, two employees, Cameron Walters and Thomas Taylor, from a popular nightlife spot in Five Points were robbed at gunpoint.
According to a police report, as they were leaving work at 10:55 p.m., three unidentified men dressed in black approached them from Oak Street.
During the encounter, one of the men was hit.
The suspects then took two iPhones, a $20 bill, Cameron Walters’ driver’s license, debit card, and concealed carry license.
They fled in the victims’ cars, driving away on Oak Street. The responding officer didn’t observe any visible injuries from the altercation.
Using the “find my iPhone” application, the police were able to track down the stolen phones at the intersection of May and Lomax streets.
However, the cars were not found. The stolen vehicles include a 2007 silver Saturn Ion, owned by 50-year-old Gwendolynn Thompson but driven by Taylor, and a 2014 black Chevrolet Cruze, owned and driven by Walters.
The manager of Hoptinger’s, a nearby bar in the Five Points area, mentioned that the carjacking took place in the parking lot behind their establishment. However, they clarified that Hoptinger’s itself was not targeted for robbery.
A hostess at Hawkers mentioned that the staff was aware of the incident and found it worrisome, especially given that it occurred on a Monday night.
