Police reported discovering a body at Canaveral National Seashore near Kennedy Space Center on June 1.
The deceased individual was identified as Angel Farge from Orlando. An autopsy revealed that Farge had probably drowned and had a broken neck, according to records.
Farge’s cousin informed investigators that Farge had intended to go to the beach with a friend. However, Farge did not specify which beach he would be going to or who the friend was, as per the police.
Farge’s family was “adamant” that Farge kept his iPhone 13 Pro Max with him “at all times,” according to authorities, and Farge’s mother informed police his account was still active.
A few days after, Farge’s brother got a call from Pena. Pena informed him that someone else had Farge’s things and was attempting to sell them, according to the police.
According to the affidavit, Pena knew Farge from the dating app “Grindr” and was attempting to return the things to Farge.
The brother informed Pena about Farge’s passing. Pena said he needed to talk to someone who had Farge’s things for information, and promised to call back.
After that, Pena ended the call, as stated by the police. Despite multiple attempts to reach him, the brother couldn’t get through to Pena, according to detectives.
About a month later, detectives found out that the phone had been sold at an EcoATM, a place where you can exchange certain electronics for cash. Records from the sale showed that Pena got $120 for it.
With this information, investigators were able to identify Pena, leading to a warrant for his arrest.
Pena is now facing charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and false verification of ownership. He’s being held on a $200,000 bond.
