Weston school's scholarships suspended by Florida Department of Education for China ties

WESTON, Fla. –Florida’s education department revoked funding for four institutions due to “direct ties to the Chinese communist party.”

Sagemont Preparatory Middle and High School in Weston was one of the schools designated by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The probe has not been made public, but the governor’s office has stated that “connections constitute an imminent threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the school’s students and the public.”

They issued a statement in response, which read in part as follows:

The state has informed us that we are no longer eligible to receive Florida Choice School funding. We were not given any prior notice and would like to learn more about the reasoning behind this choice. Meanwhile, we’ll be communicating directly with parents to make sure their children can continue attending our school.
