At the residence of Redlands resident Michael Sparks, 62, more human remains have been discovered. Sparks was detained last week on suspicion of murder in relation to an elderly couple who were reported missing from Colton.

The more remains were found on Sunday while Redlands Police Department investigators were conducting a thorough investigation of Spark’s property at the Olive Dell Ranch Nudist Resort. They had been searching for four days.

On August 29, investigators tried to find Sparks at his house after receiving information regarding the whereabouts of the 79-year-old Daniel Menard and the 73-year-old Stephanie Menard, who are now believed to be dead.

Because the 62-year-old had locked himself inside the house with a rifle, authorities had to break down the door first with a battering hammer and then with a drone.

He turned up in the same cement bunker under the house where a cadaver dog had warned authorities about bags filled to the brim with human remains.

Shortly before being apprehended, according to the authorities, Sparks attempted suicide, but the weapon misfired.

The Menards were last seen on August 24. When they failed to show up for church the next day, a friend reported them missing. Their abandoned car was discovered approximately half a mile away from the RV Park.

Sparks and the Menards had long been neighbors. Other locals claimed that Sparks had never liked the couple and that the three of them were embroiled in a constant argument.

Irene Engkraf, a longtime friend and neighbor, has been raising concerns of her own even though officials have not yet responded to questions regarding the purported killings.

“If [Sparks] drove that car down there, how did he come from there all the way around and up that hill without anybody seeing or knowing who drove that car,” she stated.

The effort to positively identify the bones discovered on Spark’s land as belonging to the Menards is reportedly still ongoing, according to the authorities.

It’s still unknown if the extra human remains discovered on the grounds on Sunday represent a different victim or victims.
