According to police, a Florida lady was recently taken into custody after stealing multiple products from a well-known retail outlet using a “large magnet.”
According to Pinellas County court documents, 45-year-old Rebecca Fleming is charged with one count of possessing an anti-shoplifting device.
It seems that the purported discovery is a coincidental stroke of luck.
According to a criminal complaint submitted by the Clearwater Police Department, Fleming was detained on June 27 while riding in the passenger seat of a red scooter that had been stopped for a traffic infraction.
According to the complaint, authorities discovered the defendant had an outstanding warrant from Oklahoma during the traffic stop. Officers then conducted a check on the woman and found what they described as “multiple bags containing clothing that had locking devices on them” in her possession.
“Search of the bags show all clothing had these locking devices on them including the bags that contained them,” police stated. “In the def’s purse a large magnet was located.”
She was then allegedly confessed to and Mirandized. According to the complaint, Fleming informed the detectives that every article of apparel and every bag had been taken from the Clearwater Mall.
“She said that she left through the front doors without setting off the detectors,” as per the court documents. “[She] stated that she has used the device in the past and has been successful with removing the locking devices from the clothing.”

The defendant allegedly continued by telling the police that she intended to use the “device” later that evening to take off every anti-theft device still attached to the clothing and bags.
According to reports, Fleming claimed, “she bought the large magnet off of Amazon.”
The offender was immediately ordered by the court to avoid the mall where the alleged shoplifting took place. Interestingly, there are no real theft charges against the defendant.
Fleming was also given a public defender by the court. On June 28, the accused secured his release from custody.
