During this season, three hurricanes affected hundreds of families in southwest Florida. Many of them experienced power outages in their houses, which led to food spoilage and a reduction in their food supplies.

But assistance for these individuals came through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Florida, or D-SNAP.

“Our Department has been working diligently to provide support and resources to individuals and families affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton”, Secretary Shevaun Harris stated in a press release.

“One of the services the Department offers after the storm is funding to replace food lost after the hurricanes made landfall through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), and we are pleased to continue offering both a telephone and in-person application process to ensure people have multiple options to apply.”

Eligibility Criteria: Who can receive D-SNAP?

Applicants for the program must not be receiving regular food assistance at the time of application. It is also required that future recipients reside in a county that was designated as a disaster area during Hurricane Helene or Hurricane Milton.

Applicants must also have experienced some sort of disaster-related loss, such as
