Police in Arizona said in a statement that they had responded to a disturbance report at the Gila River Indian Community when one of their officers was shot dead and another injured early on Saturday morning.
At 2:00 a.m. local time, Gila River Police Department officers responded to an emergency call and went to a residence in the town. Gunshots were heard as police attempted to disperse the massive gathering and deal with the incident, according to reports.
Emergency responders transported all six of the wounded—including the two police officers—to nearby hospitals after the altercation. According to the police, three of the community members are at the hospital, and one of them passed away from their wounds. Identity disclosure has not taken place.
In the hospital, one of the police officers passed away. cop Joshua Briese was identified by the police as the fallen cop. According to the statement, he had just been with the Gila River Police Department for a little over a year and was still undergoing field training.

The Gila River Police Department and FBI Phoenix will work together to investigate the shooting.

The status of the other police officer is still serious but stable. The police officer’s identity remained undisclosed.
