FREMONT, Ohio – A devastating accident occurred on a railroad bridge in Fremont, Ohio, where a train struck multiple pedestrians, leaving at least two adults dead, a toddler injured, and a young child missing, authorities confirmed.
Details of the Tragedy
Mayor Danny Sanchez reported that the victims included a mother and daughter, ages 58 and 38, who were visiting from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The injured child, approximately 14 months old, has been transported to a hospital in Toledo for treatment.
Tragically, a five-year-old child remains missing, with search and recovery efforts now focused on the nearby Sandusky River below the bridge.
Family Gathering Turned Tragedy
The victims were part of a large family group that had traveled to Fremont—about 40 miles southeast of Toledo—for a fishing trip. It remains unclear if other family members were injured in the incident.

Two dive teams are actively searching the river, assisted by Ohio State Highway Patrol and deputies from Ottawa and Sandusky counties. First responders from multiple agencies are working together to manage the scene and assist the affected families.
