Employees at many locations have confirmed that Badcock Home Furniture & More, which has two locations in Athens and several in northeast Georgia, would be closing.
“It’s hard to say, but the Badcock name will be pretty much gone,” Tim Mullen, manager of the store in Toccoa, stated.
A report states that Conn’s Home Plus, the company that operates the Conn and Badcock retail locations, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Employees in Athens said they received an email on Thursday informing them that the businesses would be closing. According to a statement on their website, Badcock outlets will be open for liquidation discounts until roughly October 31.
Atlanta Highway and Lexington Road are the locations of the Athens shops. On Thursday, after the closures were made public, word of the closure started to circulate.
Mullen claimed that business representatives called him on a zoom call to inform him of the closures. An email was sent out notifying certain establishments.
“It was a shocker,” Mullen stated. “But they are doing what they’ve got to do. The furniture industry isn’t making a dollar like it used too, and unfortunately, the company that bought Badcock … they filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy.”

“It’s a whole new generation,” he stated. “The younger generation would rather sit at home and order online versus going shopping like we always used to do.”
According to Mullen, stores would go through 60–90 days of liquidation sales.
