Authorities have verified that the 35-year-old BGE contractor and the 73-year-old owner of the Bel Air house were discovered deceased.

The homeowner was preparing for an open house, according to the State Fire Marshal’s office. The inquiry into what caused the explosion is still ongoing.

Teams from Harford County Emergency Services are responding to a Bel Air home explosion. The incident took place on Arthur Woods Drive in the 2300 block. The residence was put up for sale.

The explosion occurred on Sunday morning at 6:42, and residents in the vicinity reported hearing it and feeling their homes tremble. According to investigators, when the explosion happened, BGE technicians were in that location looking into a problem.

On the scene, one person was discovered deceased. The victim’s identity as a BGE contractor has been verified by the Maryland State Fire Marshals.

Additionally, according to the Fire Marshals, one neighbor was hurt and one individual is still missing.

According to Master Deputy Oliver Alkire of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, “What I can confirm is that there was an odor of gas in the area. We can confirm BGE was aware of that in the area and we can confirm BGE workers were on scene.”

With assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of the State Fire Marshal is conducting the investigation.

Authorities are requesting people not to deploy personal drones over the area since there is now no public threat, but the investigation is ongoing. Everyone is asked to stay away from the area by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

A hotline has been established by Harford County for locals to submit any information regarding the blast. They are requesting that locals contact 410-838-5800 if they smelled gas in the vicinity or if the explosion harmed their home.
