Three persons who have been informed of the conversations said on Thursday that President Biden will publicly declare his intention to run for reelection in 2024 as soon as the next week.
People who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal discussions said they were not aware that a final decision had been made over the time of the announcement, but that Biden had been eyeing Tuesday, April 25, four years to the day since the Democrat joined the 2020 campaign.
It is anticipated that the announcement will be made in the form of a video that will be sent to supporters.
Biden, who is 80 years old, has said on many occasions that he plans to compete for a second term in office. However, according to his advisers, he has not felt much of a need to launch a campaign since he does not face any substantial competition for his party’s nomination.
It will be a very different experience than what Joe Biden went through four years ago when he was written off by a large portion of the political establishment until he solidified his support as the man Democrats felt was best positioned to beat former President Trump when the COVID-19 outbreak was in full swing.
This time around, he will be faced with the difficult task of both competing for reelection and governing the nation at the same time.
In recent months, Vice President Biden has been concentrating his efforts on putting into action the major infrastructure, technology investment, and climate measures that were approved during his first two years in office.
He has done this to establish a stark contrast with Republicans as Washington prepares for a showdown over extending the nation’s borrowing limit. Aides think that focusing on those goals will enhance the president’s reputation just in time for his reelection campaign.
In addition to the fact that he is the oldest person to ever win the presidency, the President will also have to address voter concerns over his ability to perform the duties of his office.
He has dismissed such worries, encouraging voters to “watch me,” and advisers say he wants to conduct a powerful campaign in front of what they anticipate to be a tight general election due to the division of the nation, regardless of who emerges as the Republican standard-bearer.
The top Democratic contributors have been invited by Biden to join him in Washington, DC, the following week for what was originally planned to be a dinner as well as a strategy session with his top political aides.
