Boeing 747 Makes Urgent Landing in Miami as Flames Engulf Aircraft

Following reports of flames shooting into the night sky over Miami, a Boeing 747 cargo airliner was forced to make an emergency landing on Thursday night.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated in a statement on Friday that it will examine into the most recent incident on an Atlas Air aircraft. The FAA is already looking into Boeing following an Alaska Airlines flight that had to make an emergency landing this month due to a door plug falling off the fuselage in midair.

Flight 5Y095 to Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico “landed safely after experiencing an engine malfunction shortly after departure from Miami International Airport,” the airlines said in a statement.

“The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA. At Atlas, safety is always our top priority and we will be conducting a thorough inspection to determine the cause,” Atlas Air stated.

According to the FAA, the aircraft took off on Thursday at 10:22 p.m. ET and landed back in Miami at 10:30 p.m.

The initial inspection of the Atlas Air engine discovered “a softball sized hole above the #2 engine.

A Miami homeowner posted a video on Instagram late on Thursday night that shows a plane flying across the sky with what looks to be a fire trail trailing behind it.

“Oh, my God, it’s on fire! Oh, my God,” As the jet leaves a trail of vivid yellow and crimson in its wake, the guy recording the video can be heard.

Melanie Adaros, who lives close to Miami Executive Airport, witnessed the plane while out for a stroll with her mother.
