Police were informed by Carlos Duran and Marco Collazos that their friendship had ended because of a woman in Broward County. The amorous rivalry escalated into a Hollywood restaurant altercation.
Duran, 20, of Pembroke Pines, and Jorge Uribe, 22, of Davie, were asked to leave by a restaurant employee, according to police reports. Collazos, 26, returned to his apartment in Pembroke Pines.
There was more to the conflict. Police said Duran admitted that his resentment drove him to commit a slew of crimes. There was a police chase and attempted killings.
“Duran said he was in a state of rage and wanted to harm Marco,” Pembroke Pines Officer Danny Hidalgo stated.
Collazos claimed that early on Monday morning, his dog’s barking startled him. According to investigators, Duran admitted to using a knife to scale a balcony and break into Collazo’s residence.
Collazos and Duran admitted to the authorities that they struggled over who got to use the knife in the living room of the apartment. Collazos’s mother, Diana Macias, was in town from Colombia.
The 46-year-old Macias told police investigators she tried to disarm Duran when she woke up during their altercation. Duran claimed in the police report that he sliced his hands and ran away.
The two escaped, with Uribe, the driver, waiting outside in a getaway vehicle. Collazos made a 911 call. A chase began when police discovered Duran and Uribe inside the white Honda.
According to the police records, it concluded with Duran and Uribe being taken into custody by Pembroke Pines police officers at a gas station located near North University Drive.
“Jorge did admit to fleeing from police because he doesn’t have a driver’s license,” Idalgo stated.

According to documents kept by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Duran was placed under immigration hold and remained at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday. He was being jailed without bond and was the subject of five charges.
Premeditated attempted murder, armed home invasion, burglary with assault or battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and false detention were among the allegations brought against Duran. Andrew L. Siegel, Broward County Circuit Judge, was scheduled to hear his case.
According to court documents from Broward County, Uribe was charged with premeditated attempted murder, burglary of a house, evading police, driving a motor vehicle without a license, and reckless driving. Michael I. Rothschild, Circuit Judge, was scheduled to hear his case.
