Following suspicions that an automobile taken from the Allegheny River in Springdale Borough on Sunday contained human remains, police launched an investigation.
Allegheny County police and Darrick Gerano, the director of the Murrysville Medic One dive team, said that seven divers were in the area of the 100 block of Butler Street in Springdale for training.
That coincidental finding led the squad to discover the vehicle submerged shortly before noon.

There is around two feet of visibility beneath the surface of the river where the car was discovered, which is approximately nine feet deep.

After the car was retrieved from the river by a tow truck, a viewer posted a picture of the diving team inspecting it.
When the diving crew landed the car, they thought there might have been human remains inside.
Remains were discovered in the car, according to a statement from the county police, and they were brought to the county medical examiner’s office for identification.
Gerano expressed gratitude to the Springdale police for their assistance in getting the automobile to the surface.
