In July 2023, an Ohio man is scheduled to appear in court about a highway collision that claimed the life of a Kentucky teen.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reports that on June 11, 37-year-old Cincinnati resident Ricky Raider was taken into custody in relation to the 18-year-old Lauren Collins’s death.
Authorities claim that on July 16, 2023, Collins was driving north on I-75 when a tire from another car broke off, crossed the median into southbound traffic, and hit her windshield. Collins was brought to a hospital, where her injuries ultimately claimed her life.
“He lost a tire on the interstate over the past weekend but didn’t believe his tire had hit anyone,” Raider reportedly told police when he called them on July 22, 2023.

Authorities claim that after Raider’s tire “dismounted from his 1993 Ford F-250,” he was traveling north on I-75 when the crash occurred. Raider also acknowledged that he “knew that the collision likely resulted in someone being hurt or killed.”
The record of the phone call between Raider and an inmate at the Bullit County Detention Center was later obtained by BCSO.
Court records stated that Raider was accused of being a repeat felon, leaving the scene of an accident without providing help, and failing to report for duty.
Raider was housed in the Boone County Correctional Facility.
