Charges Laid Farmville Man Accused of Locking Dog in Burning House

The Farmville man is suspected of locking a dog in a room of a house he set on fire during a domestic dispute, and he was taken into custody by the Greenville Police Department on Thursday.

Deanegelo Godard, 23, is accused of several offenses, including second-degree arson, animal cruelty, and domestic abuse, according to court filings.

Court records show that on Sunday, July 7, Godard is accused of setting fire to a residence at 5190 A Deveron St. in Greenville.

Around 2:00 pm, the victim claimed to the Greenville police that her partner had punched and physically abused her. This sparked a need for assistance regarding a domestic dispute.

After leaving the house and managing to find a ride to a neighboring restaurant, the victim informed the authorities that she had made a help request.

When she returned home with her stuff in tow, the Greenville Police Department officers escorted her home and found it to be on fire. The victim’s dog was saved from a bedroom in the back of the house after the house was emptied.

Godard is being held at the Pitt County Detention Center and is being charged with the following offenses:

  • Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence
  • Animal Cruelty
  • Arson, Second Degree
  • Damage to Real and Personal Property
  • Lack of Presence – Basic Ownership Sch VI CS
  • Absence of Manifestation – DWLR Unaffected Rev.
  • Identity Theft Failure to Appear – Notifying DMV Address Change Failure to Appear
  • Financial card fraud resulting from non-appearance.

The total bond amount for all charges against Godard is $380,300.
