Last week, an anesthesiologist entered a guilty plea to using a drug to render a lady unconscious and engaging in sexual assault; the victim captured the entire incident on tape.
In a statement released on August 22, the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office stated that Paul Giacopelli has entered a plea to one count of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of second-degree assault. In addition to a maximum of ten years of post-release monitoring, he will serve four years in prison. Giacopelli also needs to register as a sexual offender.
Deputies were informed on December 29 by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office that the victim had been “given anesthesia without her knowledge and was subsequently sexually assaulted.”
Giacopelli was the main anesthesiologist at Putnam County Hospital, and investigators discovered that he had access to a variety of medications. Four charges of first-degree sexual abuse and four counts of second-degree assault led to Giacopelli’s arrest by deputies the following day.
According to CBS News, the victim was a caregiver for Giacopelli’s children while employed by his family. According to reports, she informed detectives that she woke up to a rag smeared with chemicals on her face and then blacked out four times.
A camera was hidden in a room by the victim after she started to get suspicious. She allegedly recorded the encounter on December 29 and gave it to the police.
Giacopelli acknowledged that he used a rag covered in sevoflurane, a kind of chemical anesthetic, to put the victim to sleep. He allegedly stated that he was targeting the victim because she was a “heavy sleeper” and that he had a “fetish for chloroform.”
