A black bear that was looking for snacks got as close as a boy eating popcorn in a Colorado backyard, frightening the family.

The bear appears behind Evan as he is eating kettle corn in the backyard of a relative’s Aspen house, according to security camera footage that Rob and Rachel Schmela released.

Evan was unaware that there was an animal behind him until the bear got within approximately a foot of his head.

“I was like, frozen for a couple of seconds, I didn’t know what to do,” Rachel Schmela stated to KDVR-TV. “Luckily, Rob and his brother kind of jumped into action sooner than I did and they knew just to make some loud noise and that would scare the bear.”

According to her, Evan was unharmed during the interaction.

Though they frequently see bears in the neighborhood after dark, the family claimed that this was their first encounter with one during the day.

In the driveway of their Simsbury home, a Connecticut family had a similar incident that was captured on camera last month. Family members, including her 2-year-old nephew and 9-year-old son, were reportedly enjoying time outside with Kristin Lee.

The young boys warn the grownups to the presence of a bear that was prowling around the house, according to security camera footage. The family can be seen running inside in the footage.

Lee reported that nobody was hurt.
