Construction Worker Killed in North Phoenix Accident, Police Confirm

WPBN: In accordance with the Phoenix Police Department, the body of a young guy who was 18 years old was discovered on January 4 at a construction site in the northern part of the city that was being used for a residential development.

The event took place at the Verdin master-planned area, which is situated on Sonoran Desert Drive close to 7th Street. It took place at approximately two o’clock in the afternoon.

After arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found Omar Marino Alonso, who was 18 years old, exhibiting obvious signs of having been injured. In addition to that, they found a water truck in the vicinity that had incurred significant damage.

When firefighters got at the scene, they confirmed that Marino Alonso had passed away the previous day.

“It looks like the truck was operated by the driver. He just finished filling up the tank. It was heading down hill when the vehicle lost control and rolled over causing the driver to eject. He sustained significant injuries once he got ejected, which resulted in his death,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky stated.

There is still an ongoing investigation into this tragedy, but according to the police, it looks that speed had a role in it.

“These are construction sites. They have their own type/set of rules for safety. That’s the thing you always have to harp on, is safety,” Sgt. Krynsky stated.

Taylor Morrison, a company that specializes in residential construction, occupies the development site.

“We are deeply saddened by the fatality of a contractor that occurred over the weekend at one of our construction sites, and our thoughts are with their family,” the company said in a statement that was released.

A water truck belonging to the Universal Group was being driven by Marino Alonso.

“As far as if he was wearing any restraint device, that will be determined through the conclusion of the investigation,” Sgt. Krynsky stated.
