D.C. Police Officer Killed While Attempting to Retrieve Gun from Storm Drain

According to authorities, a gun that an officer in Washington, D.C. was attempting to retrieve from a storm drain accidentally discharged, resulting in the officer’s death on Wednesday.

According to Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll, the officer, Wayne David, has over 25 years of experience with the Metropolitan Police Department.

“Wayne is a true hero to the District of Columbia, and today he gave his life to serve the visitors and the residents here,” Carroll stated. “We will never forget that.”

Carroll stated that earlier on Wednesday, police had observed a someone exit a suspicious car in the city’s northeast, start walking, and then hop onto Interstate 295.

He claimed that after witnessing the individual toss a gun down a storm drain, the officers watched them ride off on a motorcycle.

Carroll claimed that when the gun went off, police were attempting to remove it from the drain, and the officer was struck at least once. He claimed that the suspect who disposed of the gun in the drain is being sought by the police.
