On Friday evening, a bullet hit a Southwest Airlines aircraft as it was getting ready to take off from Dallas Love Field Airport. According to authorities, no one was hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration told CNN that the gunshot hit “near the cockpit,” causing damage to the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
In a statement to CBS News on Flight 2494, Southwest Airlines said the bullet was located just below the flight deck on the right side of the aircraft as it was taxiing for takeoff from Dallas to Indianapolis shortly before 10 p.m.
Passengers disembarked when the aircraft safely returned to the gate.
“Southwest will accommodate our customers on another flight,” the airline stated. “Law enforcement authorities have been notified and the plane has been removed from service.”
The targeted target and the location of the shooting were not disclosed. As early as Saturday morning, no arrests had been reported. Police in Dallas are in charge of the investigation.
While authorities conducted their investigation, the plane’s runway was temporarily blocked on Friday night. There are three runways at the airport.
