A teenager reportedly opened fire on officers during a hostage incident overnight, but no officers were hurt.
An argument between housemates sparked the incident late Saturday night in an Aurora apartment complex. According to a 911 caller, one of the residents acquired a pistol as the fight got more heated.
“The caller told dispatchers a man assaulted a woman, threatened them and another roommate with the firearm, and returned inside an apartment with the victim,” the Aurora Police Department stated.
The complex, which is situated in the 1900 block of South Vaughn Way, was visited by police and a member of the department’s hostage negotiation team.
According to the police, they were successful in negotiating with the suspect to have the woman leave the house.
“Officers remained at the scene and attempted to contact the suspect to negotiate his surrender,” the police department stated. “About 1 a.m. Sunday, the suspect appeared in a doorway and fired multiple shots at officers.”
The suspect was struck by one officer who exchanged gunfire.

“Officers performed lifesaving actions on the suspect until medical responders arrived and rushed the man to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, an 18-year-old Aurora man, later died at the hospital,” police stated.
The identity of the suspect has not been made public. As is customary in Colorado, the shooting officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
