A bunch of drag queens from Miami went to the ABC studio in New York City to celebrate Ana Navarro’s birthday on live national TV last Friday.
On “The View,” the drag performers from R House Wynwood drag brunch—Athena Dion, Tayanna Love, Kat Wilderness, T.lo Ivy, and Juicy Love—gave Navarro a special plaque, naming her the “Godmother of R House.”
Navarro mentioned that the R House faced challenges for over a year, as Gov. Ron DeSantis tried to shut it down, leading to the performers being targeted and harassed.
With reference to a $10,000 settlement with the state, Navarro stated, “They have spent a fortune in legal fees, and so you know what? The drag queens survived and his campaign is dead.”
DeSantis, aiming to be the next Republican presidential candidate after Donald Trump, spoke against the drag shows at R House, saying they are harmful to children.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation claimed that a performer wore inappropriate attire in front of a 3-5-year-old girl.
“He has really come for drag shows and LGBTQ+ communities,” Navarro’s co-host Sara Haines stated.
Last year, people were upset with DeSantis because he passed six laws that were specifically against LGBTQ+ rights. This was more than the total of the previous seven years combined.
People protested against HB 1069, which restricted what could be taught about sexual orientation or gender identity in public schools. They also criticized SB 254 as a ban on important gender-affirming care and HB 1521 as a bill against transgender individuals using certain bathrooms.
Joy Behar, Navarro’s co-host, made a joke, asking, “Do you think that maybe DeSantis secretly wants to get dressed up in ladies’ clothes? Is that possible?”
