Further criminal charges have been brought against a guy who was previously accused of indecent liberties in North Carolina earlier this summer.

Charles Wesley Shumaker, 44, of Thomasville, is wanted in Galax, Virginia, according to warrants, on suspicion of rape by coercion, threat, or intimidation. Based on an incident that occurred in February 2019, the warrant was issued on September 3.

Warrants state that Shumaker sexually assaulted a lady in Virginia in 2019. Despite speaking with the victim and receiving information about the incident, police claim that the victim’s DNA did not match anyone in the databases that were currently in use.

Then, in late August 2024, Shumaker was identified as a match that was discovered in North Carolina.

After establishing communication with the DCSO, they learned that Shumaker had been a truck driver with routes into Virginia. They issued the warrants for the 2019 rape as a result of this.

Shumaker was picked up by Davidson County officials and is not currently in the custody of the Galax Police Department. To decide the next steps in the Virginia case, he will be the subject of an extradition hearing in Davidson County.

He was accused with three counts of felony indecent liberties with a kid in Davidson County at the beginning of July.
