Authorities reported Wednesday that a 14-year-old child has been taken into custody by Miami police in relation to a double shooting that took place earlier this month.

Authorities recognized him as Samas Marcellas Williams. The incident happened in the 100 block of Northeast 77th Street on October 11 just before 1 a.m., according to his arrest record.

Police in the city of Miami said that after getting two ShotSpotter alerts, they arrived on the scene and discovered two persons who had been shot.

According to police, one of the victims was sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, while Miami Fire Rescue workers declared the other dead at the site.

The victim was identified by loved ones as his friend David Pichinte, 32, and the murder victim as Robin Hernandez, 35, an El Salvadorian father of three.

According to witnesses, Pichinte, 32, tried to disarm the shooter after he approached them and demanded things while wearing a mask.

According to Marlin Fernando, the shooting occurred after the suspect asked for a drink from him, his brother-in-law, and a friend.

Fernando claimed that even after Hernandez had hit the ground, the gunman continued to fire at him. Although neither the Medical Examiner’s Office nor the police have confirmed it, he believes the gunman shot Hernandez six times. Some of the witnesses can be seen rushing following the incident on ring video taken from a nearby building.

The arrest report states that police were able to identify Williams after looking through security footage that showed him leaving his house, traveling to the crime scene, and then coming back.

According to police, he was also connected to a strong-arm robbery throughout the course of the inquiry.

“He kind of confessed to it, but we didn’t need anything from him. We have the firearm. He did talk to us with a guardian present, and he’s going to be facing the rest of his life in jail,” police stated.

Williams was taken to the MPD Central Station after being arrested at his residence on Tuesday evening.

The teenager reportedly gave detectives a statement, but it was removed from the report before it was made public.

Following an interview, Williams was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder and taken into custody early on Wednesday morning.

Williams appeared at a detention and shelter hearing at the Miami-Dade Children’s Courthouse, where a judge issued a stay-away order for the victim. According to a judge, he will continue to be held in safe custody while the matter is being handled.

On November 12, Williams is expected to appear in juvenile court again.

The origin of the pistol used in the shooting was unknown, according to police, and they think the 14-year-old suspect may be connected to additional crimes. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 305-471-8477 to reach Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
