MIAMI (WSVN) – A motorist ran over a bicycle and collided with three automobiles that were parked along the road before smashing into the Braman Motors dealership and colliding with three more cars inside.
The incident, which took place at about 11 a.m. at the junction of Biscayne Boulevard and 20th Street, was reportedly reported by the Miami Police Department.
7Skyforce flew above the location, which was located at 2060 Biscayne Blvd in Miami, where it was possible to view the damage to the structure as personnel inside were cleaning up debris caused by the aftermath of the incident.
At the crossroads, the cyclist was struck by a man who was 78 years old, as reported by the police.
According to Miami Fire Lt. Pete Sanchez, “the vehicle was traveling southbound on Biscayne Boulevard when it struck a cyclist, hit three other vehicles, continued to lose control, and then reversed into the Braman Motors showroom.”
Before it smashed into the business, several individuals in the area heard the car approaching the junction.
“We just heard a few seconds of a car screeching,” said Michelle Skinner, who was working nearby at the time. “We just heard a few seconds of a car screeching.”
“The sound, and then we were trying to stay focused, but like all Miami rubberneckers,” said Troy Kurtz, who was working closely at the time. “The inevitable sound.”
Critical care was immediately provided for the rider at the adjacent Jackson Memorial Hospital when he was transferred there.
Sanchez stated that the rider had suffered a head injury and was sent to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. “We did also evaluate a couple of other people on the scene that were involved in the vehicle’s outside, and luckily, they did not require treatment or transport,” says the paramedic. “They were involved in the vehicle’s outside.”
The motorist who was guilty of the accident did not sustain any injuries and remained at the scene to talk with the authorities while cleanup operations were initiated both inside and outside of the dealership.
The wrecked truck was seen on tape by 7News cameras as it was being taken away.
When he was taken to the hospital, the biker was stated to be conscious and responsive.
The police are looking into whether or not any charges will be filed against the motorist.
