On Tuesday night in Anaheim, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who may have been intoxicated and who then took their vehicle off the road and into the Santa Ana River.
The Anaheim Police Department said that it occurred just after 6:30 p.m. close to E. Wagner Avenue and S. Rio Vista Street.
After driving off the road, the car had landed in two feet of water in the Santa Ana River when emergency personnel arrived, according to the police. They are looking into the possibility that the driver was impaired by an unidentified suspect at the time of the collision.
Crews from the Anaheim Fire Department report that the driver and a passenger were able to get out of the vehicle on their own.
The vehicle struck a fence that is situated along a pedestrian walkway close to the riverbed, according to footage from the scene.
When the officers arrived on the spot, they learned of a woman who had been reported missing in the region. She had taken a stroll down the riverbank, but she hadn’t come home, according to her husband, who had called to report this.

Although they are investigating if the body is connected to the incident, they found it in the bushes at the area.
When the collision happened, the investigators think the automobile was going over forty miles per hour.
