Before the deadline, people are urged to apply for the state’s property tax/rent rebate program, according to Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity.

Refund recipients who included a phone number on their application will receive notifications from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue when their claim is processed and once more when it is granted.

Who is eligible to receive the money?

Applicants must fulfill certain requirements in order to be eligible for the rebate: they must be 65 years of age or older, widows or widowers 50 years of age or older, or people with disabilities 18 years of age or older. Their yearly income must also be less than $45,000.

By inputting their Social Security number, claim year, and date of birth into the “Where’s My Rebate” tool, recipients can monitor the progress of their rebate.

The maximum standard rebate of $650 is determined by a number of criteria. Supplementary rebates, however, have the potential to raise this sum to $1,000.

Every year, residents must reapply for the rebate, which is determined by their eligibility for rent or property taxes and their current income.

When is the cutoff date for benefit applications?

Applications must be submitted by June 30th in order for the Treasury Department to begin issuing rebates to qualified applicants on July 1st.

“Many more Pennsylvanians are eligible for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program this year because the General Assembly and the Governor made the smart decision to expand the program,” Treasurer Garrity stated.

I urge all qualified individuals to submit an application as soon as they can. The earliest possible date permitted by law for Treasury to begin payments is July 1. Following that, Treasury will make payments on a rolling basis.

“This essential program makes a huge difference for so many, including older Pennsylvanians and those living with disabilities, and I’m committed to getting these payments out as quickly as possible once applicants are approved by the Department of Revenue.”
