On Tuesday, officials in New Jersey said they knew who the man was that police shot and killed as they looked into a shooting that killed two people on May 3.
A statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office says that Everett Rand, who is 29 years old and lives in Newark, was armed when cops met him.
Officials say that a man and an 8-year-old boy were shot to death in a Newark home after a fight between the two families.
Last week, officials said the man was Wyleek Shaw, 27, from Newark. The 8-year-old boy was named Zahmire Lopez.
Police said that Rand was seen running away from the scene of the crime. The attorney general’s office said that Rand was shot and killed by police after they chased him on foot.
Officials say that Steven Ferreira and Ryan Castro, both of whom work for the Newark Police Department, fired their guns during the fight.
Officials said that the killing of Rand is being looked into by the attorney general’s office.
The investigation into the murder, which is still going on, is being done by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
