Officials claimed that a couple from Pennsylvania lost their lives on Thursday after becoming entangled in rip currents while on vacation off the coast of Florida.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office identified the pair as Brian Warter, 51, and Erica Wishart, 48.

Officials reported that Warter and Wishart, along with two of their teenage children, were entangled in the rip current while on vacation with their six teenage children on Hutchinson Island.

A representative from Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office posted the tragic news on Facebook.

According to officials, the two children managed to free themselves from the current and made an effort to assist their parents.

Regretfully, officials stated that the current’s danger forced them to return to shore without the couple.

After arriving at the beach at 1:30 p.m., Martin County Ocean Rescue personnel located the pair and brought them back to land before administering CPR, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pair was declared dead but not before life-saving measures were taken both in the ambulance and in the hospital.

The kids are receiving assistance from a Martin County Sheriff’s Crisis Intervention Team deputy as they wait for family members to travel to Florida.
