The latest effort to target the Mayor’s office as Mr. Adams faces an investigation into his mayoral campaign was the raid by FBI agents on Thursday morning on the residence of a longstanding staffer to New York Mayor Eric Adams, according to reports.
According to a News 12 story, the raid took place in the Bronx residence of Winnie Greco, a longtime assistant to Mr. Adams.
Last year, Ms. Greco worked for Mr. Adams as a senior policy advisor, receiving compensation from the city of New York of around $99,700. She had already contributed to the 2021 mayoral campaign fund-raising for Mr. Adams.
At the residence on Gillespie Avenue, federal agents conducted “law enforcement activity,” according to a representative of the FBI’s New York division.
It’s unclear if the raid had anything to do with the ongoing federal investigation of Mr. Adams’s bid for mayor in 2021.
The houses of Mr. Adams’s former assistants have previously been raided by federal officials. The homes of Brianna Suggs, Mr. Adams’s former senior fundraiser, and Rana Abbasova, a former assistant in his international affairs office, were searched by the FBI in November.
Using a court-issued warrant, they also took Mr. Adams’s cell phones and other electronics last year. Mr. Adams has not been charged with anything and has thus far denied any misconduct.
The mayor’s office directed Ms. Greco to the Department of Investigation, which has been looking into her since late last year. It was claimed in a report by THE CITY that Ms. Greco took use of her position at city hall to obtain unlawful perks.
The Independent was informed by a representative for Mr. Adams’s office that Ms. Greco was on leave from her position at city hall.
