FBI Offers $10,000 Reward for Leads in New Mexico Wildfire Cases

Anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for sparking the wildfires in New Mexico will be eligible for a $10,000 reward from the FBI.

The FBI’s announcement of the award For the first time, law enforcement officials have stated that a someone or group of individuals may have started the terrible fires on Saturday, June 22. There are two fatalities from the fires.

“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for starting the fires,” FBI Albuquerque Division officials stated in the news release.

In the vicinity of Ruidoso, New Mexico, on June 17, the South Fork Fire and Salt Fire began. Over 8,000 people have been displaced as a result of the fires, which have damaged about 1,400 buildings.

“The FBI is assisting our local, state, federal and tribal partners in the ongoing investigation of the fires near Ruidoso NM,” according to the FBI officials. “We are asking for the publics assistance in identifying the cause of these fires.”

We are requesting that anyone with knowledge regarding the origin of the fires contact the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or provide it online at tips.fbi.gov. Users can also text “MESCALERO FIRE + the tip” or just “BIAMMU” to 847411, followed by the tip.

Lightning strikes and damaged power lines are two more causes of wildfires. People who leave campfires unintentionally or neglect to completely douse a campfire can occasionally unintentionally start fires.
