Portland police have stated that they are still looking for the mother of a toddler who passed away five days ago from what they believe to have been a fentanyl overdose.

Family members exchanged With her large brown eyes and even larger grin, Aurora Fernandez hoped that her legacy would be one of happiness rather than “just another kid who died from fentanyl.”

According to Dominique Hodges, Aurora’s cousin, “she wanted to be held, have her hair played with, and sing to. And she loved her dad so much.”

Nevertheless, they wish to alert the public to the risks associated with the medicine and the harm it has done to their family.

“Drugs are consuming, but it’s not that hard to choose your child,” Dominique Hodges, Aurora’s cousin stated.

from approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Portland police, they received a report from the Fox Run RV park in Northeast Portland regarding a “2-year-old child who was in cardiac arrest.”

However, family members claim that the child’s mother attempted CPR for at least an hour before police were called, at which point she left. Later that evening, Aurora passed away in the hospital.

“If they would have called the cops a little bit earlier and not been so scared of what was going to happen to them, Aurora could still be alive,” Hodges stated. “Because they were trying to hide the fact that they were using drugs in the house with children, it cost her her life.”

The mother, whose name is still pending, is still being sought after by the police. According to her relatives, she had three children, a history of addiction that is well documented, and partial custody of Aurora at the time of her death.

“I was really horrified that a mom would jump up and run away from her daughter while giving life saving measures,” Tina Thomas, Aurora’s aunt stated. “For people to be so selfish — their lives are non-negotiable. You don’t get to negotiate their life for one high.”

Right now, it’s unknown where the toddler obtained the fentanyl. Officers said that three adults and at least two children, including Aurora’s elder brother, were present at the residence at the time.

“No child should ever have to deal with that,” Hodges stated. “She deserved to grow up and live a happy life and find herself.”

Portland police are urging anyone with knowledge on the mother’s whereabouts to get in touch with them. A GoFundMe has been established to assist the surviving family in the interim.
