Governor Ron DeSantis visited Naples as part of the Freedom Institute’s speaker series. In his lecture, he underlined the need for a fundamental change in the goals of education—from what he refers to as “indoctrination” to a more knowledge-based curriculum that emphasizes American history and critical thinking.
In outlining his aspirational plans for Florida’s higher education, Governor DeSantis emphasized the significance of incorporating American history into the curriculum.
By the end of the decade, he hoped to see Florida in the forefront of the country in workforce education.
DeSantis also emphasized Florida’s accomplishment of having the lowest in-state tuition rates in the nation for ten years. This initiative demonstrates the state’s dedication to provide its citizens with affordable and accessible higher education.

The recent removal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs from Florida institutions constituted a major portion of DeSantis’s speech. He maintained that this action was necessary to reorient the state’s educational priorities away from ideological instruction and toward developing students’ capacity for critical thought.
In closing, Governor DeSantis expressed confidence in the results of these improvements in education.
He feels that Florida is on the right track to produce “strong patriotic students” who are well-equipped to understand the world and easily transition into the workforce by placing a higher priority on substantive knowledge and critical thinking than ideological indoctrination.
