After dodging authorities for months, a former employee of the town of El Portal was apprehended on Thursday on suspicion of stealing booze valued at tens of thousands of dollars from the sole large chain, according to police.
Richard Love, 33, remained quiet after being accused by the police of stealing booze valued at $45,000 to $60,000 from Big Daddy’s Wine and Liquors, which is situated at 8600 Biscayne Blvd.
Love was arrested on Thursday and given the nickname “Big Daddy’s booze bandit” by the authorities. Love allegedly racked up tiny transactions for months before vanishing with pricey bottles of liquor.
He avoided being taken into custody after being fired, thanks to the assistance of detectives from the Miami Police Department’s Felon Apprehension Unit.
Detective Rene Gutierrez of the El Portal Police Department stated, “He was in control of the night shift and facilitated the theft of much of the liquor stock He was the only employee at the store, but management caught on to the losses and caught him on camera.”
“We were looking for him… he was quite elusive,” added Gutierrez. “It’s a big deal. You can never get away with money, you always leave a trail.”
