Recently, a new litter of kittens, including a four-eared cat the staff has dubbed “Audio,” was brought to a Tennessee shelter after they were discovered abandoned in a box.
Director of operations at True Rescue in Mount Juliet, Kristin Condite, told that after he was brought in on Tuesday, staff members discovered his extra pair of ears during an examination.
“Whenever we took him out of his carrier, my counterpart said, ‘What’s on his ear?’ And when we looked closer, it appears as if Audio has actually four ears on his head,” Condite stated. “So he has two right-facing and two rear-facing. It’s extremely abnormal.”
At a time when the shelter is most needed, eight-week-old Audio and his ear-resistible attractiveness are attracting a lot of attention on social media.
“We’ve had ongoing issues with drainage problems and foundation issues,” Condite stated. “Sunday night, it was 4 inches [of water] from the rear wall to the front doors.”
Furthermore, kitten season is here to stay. Employees stated that in order to keep up with the intake of cats, they currently need to adopt between 150 and 200 cats each month.
Adoptions were severely hindered by the flooding problems, but in spite of this, True Rescue reported that more kittens were fostered by members of the Mt. Juliet community in an attempt to help the shelter recover. Enough food was donated by others to adequately stock the rescue.

“We’ll go through it very quickly, but it’s nice to see a few full shelves. That’s pretty rare this time of year,” Condite stated.
Employees at the shelter informed Audio that his additional ears won’t be taken out unless they begin to hurt him. He’s still being watched over by doctors, so adoption isn’t possible just yet.
The four-legged cat is making True Rescue especially happy in the interim.
“For Audio to come at this time…it really does feel like a good luck charm,” Condite stated.
