Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida gave a speech at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Saturday night to talk about his new book. DeSantis hasn’t said for sure that he will run for president in 2024, but the event felt like a rally for a campaign.
DeSantis didn’t mention former President Donald Trump by name, but he did say some harsh things about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. People from all over the tri-state area waited in long lines to see DeSantis.
There was also a group of Trump supporters there to make sure their voices were heard. Lee Zeldin, who ran for governor in the past, and other local elected officials welcomed DeSantis. DeSantis talked about his success in his state, which he calls the “Florida blueprint.”
He also talked about what parts of the blueprint would work not just in New York but all over the country. When DeSantis talked about how Florida dealt with things like vaccine requirements, law enforcement, and what kids learn in schools, the crowd cheered more.
Some people even shouted, “Run, Ron, run!” Jay Jacobs, the head of the New York State Democratic Party, said in a statement before the event, “Ron DeSantis is coming to Nassau County to sell his dangerous Florida plan, but New Yorkers won’t be fooled.”
