Gun-wielding Thief Sparks SWAT Team Response in Gainesville!

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office has called off a “shelter-in-place” call near the Gainesville Country Club because they have caught one of the suspects.

It all started when a stolen pickup truck from a mobile home was reported to the Cross City Police Department and the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office.

After the car was seen, Alachua County Sheriff’s officers set up a SWAT team and roadblocks near I-75 and southwest Williston road.

Deputies say that the thief and a passenger got out of the truck and ran into the woods near Gainesville Country Club.

At the time, people thought that one person might have a gun.

Chris Sims, the Public Information Officer for ASO, said, “A witness said that when one of the male suspects ran away from the car, he had a gun in his hand that looked like a riffle.”

So, based on what we know, we’d rather play it safe than risk getting hurt. We haven’t checked into that yet. We haven’t seen a gun on the camera footage we’ve seen, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t left somewhere.

The person who has been arrested is being questioned.

After a car thief with a gun ran into the woods, Alachua County Sheriff’s officers sent out a SWAT team.

Investigators say the suspect saw an officer following him while he was in a stolen car with two other people.

The man and his two friends jumped out of the car and ran quickly into the woods near I-75 and Southwest Williston Road, according to deputies.

Deputies say they think the man had a gun in his hands.
