Gunman Kills Three Officers in Louisiana Standoff, Officials Say

In a deadly standoff with a gunman in Louisiana on Sunday, three police officers were hurt, according to officials.

According to a statement from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto and Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley, two persons were shot outside of a property, prompting Kenner Police to be called to the 700 block of Farm Avenue at roughly 9:45 a.m. local time.

The home belonged to a relative of Michael Lathers, 31, who was wanted by authorities for an armed robbery and attempted murder that happened in Kenner earlier this week.

According to the statement, Lathers engaged in a standoff with three Kenner police officers during which a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy fatally shot Lathers.

Lopinto and Conley said that “Multiple attempts were made to contact Lathers to open negotiations, but all efforts were unsuccessful.”
