Police in Indiana say a shooting occurred during a gathering of high school-aged children on Saturday night, leaving at least one person dead and ten others injured.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department received 911 calls regarding a shooting that had taken place in a residential area.
When police arrived on the site, they described it as “chaotic,” and callers indicated that individuals were “flying in all directions.”
Witnesses claimed that when the gunfire started, a “high school age party” was taking place. According to authorities, none of the ten injured are in a life-threatening situation.
“It is unknown at this time, how many suspects were involved with the shooting,” police stated.
Sharon Tucker, the mayor of Fort Wayne, told the public that police were searching “tirelessly” for answers, but that her “heart is heavy” as she attempts to comprehend what happened.
“The safety and security of our community are vital to help ensure a better future for Fort Wayne,” Tucker stated. “My prayer is that we’ll come together unified as residents and neighbors and not accept this type of behavior.”
