Authorities in Hillsborough County have reported that the principal of an elementary school has been arrested for DUI and evading capture.

Otis Kitchen II, a 45-year-old black Chevy sedan driver, almost side-swiped a Hillsborough County deputy at around 10 p.m. on Friday night in the vicinity of West Linebaugh Avenue and North Dale Mabry.

Kitchen allegedly cut off the officer and started “driving erratically,” swerving between lanes and nearly running into oncoming traffic, according to officials. At the intersection of West Linebaugh Avenue and Gunn Highway, where there was a “no turn on red,” another deputy witnessed the suspect running a red light.

Kitchen drove off west on Old Saybrook Avenue from Casey Road, evading a traffic stop attempt, and continued driving until he pulled into his garage.

As soon as Kitchen exited his car, he was arrested. He displayed indicators of impairment, such as bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an alcoholic smell, unsteadiness, and peeing on himself, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies then carried out sobriety exercises. The results of his breath sample were.142.

Town and Country Elementary School principal Kitchen was taken into custody for UDI and evading authorities.

“Drinking and driving is not only irresponsible but also inexcusable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “It endangers the lives of everyone on the road. Our deputies acted swiftly to prevent a potentially tragic situation.”

The investigation into this is still ongoing.
