Historic Amazon Strike Puts Christmas Deliveries at Risk, Workers Warn of Delays

WPBN: As a result of the largest strike against Amazon in the history of the United States, millions of people who buy online could experience a delay in the delivery of their items during the holiday season.

According to the announcement made by the union on Thursday, thousands of Amazon employees have gone on strike in order to demand new contract discussions. This comes after the firm failed to meet their deadline of December 15th.

Following the beginning of the strike at six in the morning on Thursday, the Teamsters union issued a warning to customers that their Amazon goods would come late.

After the corporation refused the union’s demands, workers at seven different locations across the United States are participating in what is being called the “largest strike” against Amazon in the history of the United States, according to a news release issued by the union.

The Teamsters union is seeking new contracts that will provide Amazon warehouse workers with increased compensation, improved benefits, and safer working conditions.

Sean O’Brien, the President of the Teamsters General Union, was quoted as saying in the statement, “If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed.”

“We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it.”

He further added that, “These greedy executives had every chance to show decency and respect for the people who make their obscene profits possible.

“Instead, they’ve pushed workers to the limit and now they’re paying the price. This strike is on them.”

A number of places, like the City of Industry in Los Angeles and Queens in New York City, are witnessing workers demonstrating in front of Amazon facilities.

A video taken at a gathering that took place outside of the Amazon factory in Maspeth, Queens, shows police officers engaging in a confrontation with protesters who are picketing.

A video that was obtained by Hell Gate New York demonstrated that at least one individual was taken into custody.

Hell Gate stated that a worker was snatched out of his car when he attempted to join the strike. Protesters who were chanting and carrying signs were seen throughout the process of pulling the man through the mob.
