Honoring Veterans Wreath-Laying Ceremonies Set for Virginia’s Three State Cemeteries

WPBN: On Saturday, December 14, 2024, the three state veteran cemeteries in Virginia—the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, and the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia—will host holiday wreath laying ceremonies organized by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) and community partners. National Wreaths Across America Day, observed on December 14, is a day to mourn the lost, honor those who serve, and instill in the next generation the importance of freedom.

In collaboration with the Virginia Veterans Cemetery Wreath Committee, various community partners, and Wreaths Across America, the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia will host its annual wreath laying ceremony at 12 p.m.

There is some parking at the cemetery, and as many cars as feasible will be permitted to park there. It is highly recommended that attendees arrive by 11 a.m. and carpool. 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002 is the address of the cemetery.

The annual wreath-laying ceremony, organized in collaboration with the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery Volunteers and other community partners, is set for 1 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. Dublin Park, which is located across from the cemetery, has parking. A shuttle bus to the cemetery departs at 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, a brand-new stairway has been built for convenient walking access from the park.

The cemetery will offer accessible parking on a first-come, first-served basis. You may get more details at swvavcv.org. 5550 Bagging Plant Road, Dublin, VA 24084 is the address of the cemetery.

Every gathering will feature a unique program featuring speakers and patriotic music. Volunteers will lay a wreath on each gravestone after the activities are over.

“It is an honor to recognize the thousands of veterans laid to rest at the Commonwealth’s three state cemeteries this holiday season at our annual wreath laying ceremonies,” DVS Commissioner Chuck Zingler stated. “This would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers and donors who make this special observance come to fruition across the Commonwealth year over year.”

Up until the beginning of January, the holiday wreaths will be on display. Please visit dvs.virginia.gov or call 855-4VA-VETS (855-482-8387) to reach the offices of any of the three cemeteries.
