Horrific Attack on Texas Lyft Driver: Rider Slashes Throat, Attempts to Choke, and Steals Car

WPBN: In Texas, a Lyft driver reported that a customer had sliced his throat, tried to strangle him, and taken his vehicle during a vicious attack.

After being discharged from the hospital, 25-year-old Dilaver Berk says he is grateful to be alive despite being incapacitated.

According to Frisco Police, the ride-share driver was attacked from behind and had his car taken on Monday after picking up a man for a ride.

Antwain Williams, 19, was the suspect and was charged with avoiding arrest and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Additionally, he had an active warrant for allegedly inciting a kid to engage in sexual activity.

Berk now has bandages over serious gashes on his hands and stitches on his neck. Berk told authorities that he picked up Williams on Monday night in Frisco, Texas, when he was driving for Lyft.

Berk claims that just before 6 p.m., the suspect struck Williams from behind with a knife and then tried to strangle him with a cable or wire when they arrived at Legends at Legacy Apartments, located at 3700 Legacy Drive.

“The rider took a knife to Dilaver’s throat and slashed his throat. He did that a couple of times,” Berk’s friend, Dustin Tovi stated.

“Dilaver put his hands right in front of the knife and asked the rider, ‘Hey, whatever you want. Leave me alone.’ And then he had a wire to put around his neck. And Dilaver reached out as well. And he got a lot of injuries to his fingers and his neck because he was stabbed a couple of times,” Tovi added.

It was reported to the Frisco Police Department that Williams had taken Berk’s Toyota Camry and abandoned him in the parking lot of the apartment building. In the vicinity, a woman offered assistance to Berk and then dialed 911 to report the event.

After a few hours, a patrol officer discovered the vehicle close to the intersection of Highway 423 and Rockhill. In an effort to avoid being caught by the authorities, the motorist sped away from them when they made an attempt to pull him over.

Williams was reportedly involved in a collision and made an attempt to leave on foot before being apprehended by the police.

Berk relocated from Turkey to Texas a year ago, and he continues to get financial support from his parents in Turkey.

“He’s somebody that works really hard, and it’s really sad to see what happened to him,” Tovi stated. “Nobody deserves that, especially Dilaver, because he works so hard.”

The Denton County Jail is still holding Williams in custody at this time.
