According to reports, sales of recreational marijuana in Ohio’s newly legal market reached over $11 million in the first five days.

Some people can legally transport marijuana into Kentucky, but others can’t even buy it in Ohio.

“People need to understand that our program at this point is just medicinal, and you can’t get around that by going to another state and bringing it back here,” according to Governor Andy Beshear.

A small quantity of lawfully acquired medical cannabis could be possessed and used by Kentuckians with specific serious medical conditions, according to an executive order signed by Beshear in 2022.

Beginning January 1, 2023, Kentucky residents with one of twenty-one qualifying medical conditions—including cancer, MS, PTSD, muscular dystrophy, or a terminal illness—will be able to obtain medical cannabis, according to the Governor’s defined requirements. These requirements encompass:

  1. The United States of America is the only place it is legal to purchase cannabis, and even then, only in certain states. The receipt must be preserved by the Kentuckians.
  2. The legal limit in Kentucky is 8 ounces, the threshold between a misdemeanor and a crime. No one may buy or possess more than that.
  3. All Kentuckians must possess a certification from a registered healthcare provider indicating a diagnosis of one of twenty-one medical conditions. Always keep an extra copy of the certification on hand.
  4. Those who fulfill the requirements can lawfully enter Kentucky with marijuana.

It is extremely obvious what our program is for medicinal marijuana. The legislative branch and law enforcement have collaborated, according to Beshear, to develop a straightforward list of requirements for individuals to meet to carry what they assert to be medicinal marijuana.

Please keep in mind that it is currently against the law to purchase recreational marijuana in Ohio and transport it to Kentucky. The law is what it is.
