As you’re preparing for your trip, you discover that the small 100ml bottles required by the airport don’t hold your favorite perfume, that unique lotion, or the baby’s bottle.
You groan, you juggle, or worse, you end up saying goodbye to your lotion in the security line while you dump it into the trash bag that contains, like your perfume, other (possibly very expensive) things that previous travellers have had to throw away.
Prepare yourself for a major surprise! Eleven liquids on the TSA’s list are now allowed to be carried in their original size without the typical limitations.
This new rule is a relief for many who are afraid of the strict airport inspection, as it covers everything from necessary drugs to water to make the bottle during the trip.
What is the origin of this regulation?
Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, security concerns led to the creation of the current liquids laws, including the well-known 100 ml limit.
A terrorist attempt to use liquid bombs on airplanes was uncovered by international security officials in the United Kingdom in 2006.
The plan was to create bombs during the flight by combining seemingly innocuous ingredients. Governments reacted quickly to this finding, which raised alarms all throughout the world.
Strict regulations on the transportation of liquids in hand luggage were put in place by security organizations like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the US and its European counterparts to reduce these kinds of risks:
- The 100 milliliter limit: You lessen the chance that someone will mix drugs and bring something hazardous on the flight by just bringing a limited amount of liquid.
- The clear, one-litter, self-sealing bag isn’t a whim, but it facilitates visual screening and helps security personnel spot questionable materials.
- Exceptions for food and medicine: From the start, things like baby food, liquid medications, and other necessities were exempt as long as a doctor’s prescription was provided.
This is going to change everything
According to New York Post, it appears that some liquids are already being examined for transportation in their original container and size, and this will happen very soon! The 3-1-1 rule, which prohibits drinks, will soon be forgotten as a result of this!
Additionally, they stated that CT scanners might be phased out, allowing us to bring original versions of personal hygiene products (as well as other items) on airplanes.
In Europe, this measure has been increasingly liberal for a few years now, so for now, we hope that this limit can be lifted in the very, very near future!

Can I now carry something that is the same size as before?
Indeed! The TSA has compiled a list of various wellness and health goods that are essential for some people. This is the list!
- Baby milk: You can now bring all the formula or breast milk you require when traveling with a little child, without having to worry about the typical limitations.
- Water and baby formula: It’s far more convenient to travel with babies when you have water on hand to manufacture the formula while in flight.
- Liquid medications: You can carry liquid drugs without any issues if you require them. Having a prescription or other medical paperwork on hand, however, is advised in case they request it at the security checkpoint.
- Hand sanitizer: Although it will be uncommon for you to carry 1L of hydroalcoholic gel, this pandemic necessity was previously permitted in full amount and will be available for unrestricted carrying.
- You can now carry nasal sprays and saline solutions without worrying about capacity restrictions, making them ideal for maintaining your respiratory health on lengthy journeys.
- Artificial tears and eye drops: These goods are permitted without a reason and are perfect for people with dry eyes or contact lenses.
- Non-flammable body and hair sprays: You don’t have to worry about size restrictions while carrying personal care products as long as they aren’t flammable.
- Contact lens solution: Now permitted in any amount, this is a must for contact lens wearers.
- Denture cleaner: You no longer have to worry about the size of your denture cleaning supplies when you travel with them.
- If used for medical purposes, medical creams and lotions are still permitted.
- Inhaler fluids: There is no guilt associated with the fluids required for inhalation devices, such as those used by asthmatics.
- Medical equipment, such as freezers or ice packs, are necessary to keep commodities like vaccinations cool and can now be transported without fear of limitations.
