More than fifty cats were pulled out of a single home by Orange County police, who believe the owner was reproducing the animals in order to turn a profit quickly.
The cats were discovered on Garnet Street in Irvine, within an area that was part of a gated community. After receiving an anonymous tip, police said they were dispatched to the location on Tuesday. More than fifty cats, some of whom were unclean and underweight, were there when they arrived.
It is against the law to maintain more than three cats in a residence in Irvine. The reason the resident(s) possessed so many cats is unknown, but according to the police, they think the homeowner was breeding them.
According to Kyle Oldoerp, a police spokesman, “Theyāre very unique. Theyāre British Shorthairs and Ragdolls, and theyāre selling up to $1,000 apiece. So these definitely do appear to be a unique breed of cat that she was selling.”
At Irvine Animal Care Center, the cats are currently receiving care.

The cats will probably be put up for adoption at some point, and details will be published on the city’s website, police said, advising the public not to get in touch with the center about adopting them.
Police stated that they will forward their findings to the district attorney’s office, which will determine whether charges are appropriate, about whether or not charges will be brought against the resident or residents of the house.
