Sgt. Karen Dukes from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a briefing that two shootings occurred close to each other.

The initial incident happened on Friday at 1:03 p.m. when officers were called to 8300 Galveston Ave. They discovered a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was rushed to a local hospital and is in critical condition but still alive.

Sgt. Dukes also mentioned that a 24-year-old man surrendered to police when they first arrived.

Crime scene and technical support detectives are currently investigating the details of the incident. Sgt. Dukes suggested that the shooting likely stemmed from a disagreement related to neighborhood traffic, which escalated uncontrollably.

The second shooting was reported at 1:09 p.m. The victim, believed to be in his mid-20s and potentially homeless, was found in an abandoned home at Acme Street and Kona Avenue. He sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and hip while seeking shelter.

Fortunately, the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. As of now, there is no available information regarding a motive or suspect.
